Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World

  • November 5 – March 14: Henderson Library, Statesboro Campus
  • March 27 – June 30: Lane Library, Savannah Campus

Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World, highlights how pathogens can spread to people from wildlife and livestock, why some outbreaks become epidemics and how human, animal and environmental health are connected as One Health.

IHLA has brought this Smithsonian exhibit to Georgia Southern in support of our One Health mission.

Outbreak is part of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s Outbreak project, which convenes global partners to raise awareness of the human, animal, and environmental factors contributing to infectious disease epidemics.

Exhibit components:

  • 18 large free standing Smithsonian exhibit panels

In addition to the Smithsonian materials, IHLA has added custom sections:

  • Authentic Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) containment suit, the type worn by people working in a laboratory or responding to outbreaks of novel or deathly viruses.
  • 3D examples of infectious vectors (like viruses and bacteria)
  • Exhibits showcasing our university response to the COVID-19 outbreak

This Smithsonian Institution exhibit is presented by the IHLA, University Libraries, and Georgia Southern University Museum. A special thank you to Honeywell Inc. for donation of the BSL4 suit.
